Norman City Council passes ordinance requiring facial coverings when in public

As COVID-19 cases rise across the state and locally, Norman City Council passed an ordinance requiring residents to wear facial coverings when outside their homes during their Tuesday meeting. The ordinance, which includes exceptions for certain activities and those with medical conditions, works in combination with the University of Oklahoma’s required masking for students and lasts through November 30, 2020.

Westwood Aquatics Center closes Thursday, Friday due to positive employee COVID-19 test

The Westwood Aquatics Center will be closed Thursday and Friday out of an abundance of caution following an employee testing positive for COVID-19. The employee that tested positive was not a swim instructor and did not have any direct contact with the general public.

NPD to Host Police Community Partnership Day on July 11. The Norman Police Department, in partnership with Armstrong Bank, Absolute Data Shredding, and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, will host an event for residents looking to dispose of unwanted documents, prescription drugs, and ammunition. The NPD Police Community Partnership Day is scheduled for Saturday, July 11 from 8 a.m. to Noon in the parking lot of Andrews Park at the corner of Daws Street and James Garner Avenue.

Approved Budget to Eliminate Nine Police Officer Positions

City Council recently adopted the final budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021. The proposed budget to the Norman Police Department was reduced by $865,000 which will eliminate nine Norman police officer positions.

Parks and Recreation Healthier at Home

Norman Parks and Recreation will be opening equipment and facilities in alignment with the Mayor's Healthier at Home plan. In addition to site-specific guidelines at each facility , all facilities will have the follow guidelines for face coverings and daily temperature check, social distancing guidelines, and sanitization of high traffic areas.
