Ribbon-cutting event for City’s new Line Maintenance Headquarters slated for January 29, 2024

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the City of Norman’s new Line Maintenance facility will take place at 3 p.m. on January 29, 2024, and all are welcome to attend. The facility – to serve as a central headquarters for the divisions of Water Line Maintenance, Sewer Line Maintenance, Meter Services and administrative support services – is located at 2705 East Robinson Street.

“This facility will allow for more functional work areas that will increase efficiencies of our operations,” said Line Maintenance Division Manager Scott Aynes. “We are excited to get settled in and very thankful for the support of our community in this endeavor.”

Water Line Maintenance maintains over 640 miles of water lines and 6,800 fire hydrants; Sewer Line Maintenance maintains over 500 miles of collection lines and 14 lift stations; Meter Services oversees data collection on more than 43,000 water meters each month. Service equipment can now be stored indoors and away from the elements in a climate-controlled environment, increasing preparedness and response time for crews.

Staff transitioned from a facility at the City’s North Base campus, off of North Flood Avenue, which will now be used for storage. In addition to indoor space for equipment, the new facility will have multiple restrooms for staff members and the public, as well as adequate training rooms and office areas. The $9 million facility was built in 14 months and consists of a central metal building in between multiple bays.

The ribbon-cutting will include speakers and be followed by facility tours and refreshments.
