NPD Arrests Barricaded Suspect in connection with Assault

The Norman Police Department (NPD) responded to a report of a disturbance in the 2900 block of Slider Court at approximately 10:07 a.m. Thursday. Once on scene, officers located two adult female victims who stated their male roommate had threatened and assaulted them with a handgun over the course of the last 24 hours until they were able to escape and call police. Both sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the assaults.

The victims reported that the male subject remained inside the residence and was believed to have multiple firearms. Officer attempts to make contact and establish communication with the male subject were unsuccessful. The NPD SWAT Team was activated due to the male subject being armed and barricaded within the residence. After three hours of attempts to communicate, officers breached the front door and took the male subject into custody without further incident.

The male subject has been identified as 56-year-old Darren Coker (DOB: 5/24/1967). Coker has been booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center on complaints of Threatening an Act of Violence (two counts) and Felonious Pointing of a Firearm. Additional charges are pending the ongoing investigation.

The incident remains under investigation by the NPD Criminal Investigation Division.
