Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting event to take place September 13 for City of Norman’s new Solid Waste Facility

Community members are invited to join City of Norman staff and elected officials for the grand opening of the Solid Waste Facility, located 2301 Goddard Avenue, from 4-5 p.m. on September 13. The event will include speakers, an official ribbon-cutting, facility tours and refreshments.

“We are incredibly excited to unveil this new facility, which will serve as a central hub for our solid waste collection drivers, administrative workers and managers,” said Bret Scovill, Division Manager. “We appreciate the support of the community in this endeavor and are thankful for the opportunity to continue providing essential services for Norman each day.”

Construction on the 6,300 sq. ft., $2.7 million facility began in Fall 2022. It was designed by the McKinney Partnership with insight and direction from City of Norman staff members, to include Capital Projects Engineer Ken Giannone, and built by Crossland Construction. Several City divisions will now utilize the former Solid Waste Facility for storage space.

Operations within the Solid Waste Division are currently comprised of: Administration, Commercial Collection, Compost Operations, Recycling Operations, Waste Disposal, and Residential Collection. The mission of the Sanitation Division is to provide quality sanitation services to the citizens and businesses in the City of Norman in a dependable manner, and treat customers with courtesy and commitment to a cleaner Norman.

Parking to the south of the facility is available for those interested in attending the event. Questions may be directed to PublicAffairs@normanok.gov.
