City of Norman Volunteer Mediators recognized for service

City of Norman Volunteer Mediators were recognized on November 13, 2023, at Municipal Court for their time and commitment to Norman’s Early Settlement Program.

Mediation is a process in which a neutral third party, the mediator, assists participants in resolving a dispute or conflict.

“Norman’s Early Settlement Program is a vital program for our community,” said Municipal Court Administrator Ronda Guerrero. “It’s an important process that allows citizens to take ownership in their own resolution.  Our mediators are citizens of our community, who are volunteering their time and efforts to help. The volunteers are the heart of the program and help build trust and encourage open communication.”

Mediators provide a safe and supportive space where all parties can express their perspectives and concerns freely in confidential environment. They complete specialized training and are certified by the Administrative Directors of the Courts to volunteer in this capacity.

“It was our privilege to acknowledge volunteers for their commitment and dedication to Norman’s Early Settlement Program last night with certificates of service,” said Norman Mayor Heikkila. “We welcome and encourage Normanites who are interested in becoming involved in this program to reach out to Municipal Court staff for more information.”

Those interested in volunteering for the program can call 405-217-7750.
