UPDATE: Norman Police Conclude Investigation into Fatal Shooting near Lindsey Street and Elm Avenue

The Norman Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 11:26 a.m. Saturday (April 9) near the intersection of Lindsey Street and Elm Avenue.

The investigation indicates a 36-year-old male approached a vehicle traveling westbound on Lindsey Street while it was stopped in heavy traffic at a red light. The driver, a 33-year-old male, was driving with his windows down when an individual aggressively approached his vehicle, unprovoked, and reared back to punch the driver. Fearing for his safety and the safety of the juvenile in the vehicle, the driver retrieved a firearm and shot the individual. Witnesses attempted to render aid, but the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene, immediately called 911 and fully cooperated with the investigation. The investigation indicates no prior relationship or interactions between the two individuals.

Upon review of the case, the Cleveland County District Attorney's Office declined to file charges citing the Stand Your Ground law (21 OK Stat § 21-1289.25). The names of those involved will not be released due to criminal charges not being filed in this case.
