Norman Police Investigate Fatal Collision involving Five Vehicles on Highway 9

The Norman Police Department (NPD) responded to a report of an injury collision on State Highway 9 between 48th Avenue SE and 60th Avenue SE at approximately 7:04 p.m. on March 1.

The initial investigation indicates that a vehicle traveling westbound on State Highway 9 crossed left of center colliding head-on with an eastbound vehicle. Following the initial collision, three additional vehicles were involved in subsequent collisions with the initial two vehicles. 

The driver of the vehicle who crossed left of center has been identified as a 62-year-old female. She was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased due to injuries sustained during the collision. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle who was hit head-on has been identified as a 28-year-old female. She was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Her vehicle had one passenger who has been identified as a 7-year-old male. The male was also transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle, driver, and injury information of the other vehicles involved include:

  • Truck driven by a 25-year-old male who was the sole occupant. He was transported to a local hospital by a personal vehicle for non-life-threatening injuries.
  • SUV driven by an 18-year-old female who was the sole occupant. She was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Truck driven by a 73-year-old male with a 71-year-old female passenger. Neither individual sustained injuries as a result of the collision.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the NPD/OUPD Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team.
