Lift Station D Phase 2 Force Main Project: Advisories & Information

PROJECT BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Southwest Water Works LLC, a City of Norman contractor, is completing the replacement of the existing force main that has experienced regular breaks during periods of increased flow from the lift station.  Replacement of this line is necessary to more fully utilize the existing pumps at Lift Station D during wet weather events.  Southwest Water Works LLC was awarded Contract K-2223-141 on May 23, 2023, in the amount of $935,000 to complete this work. The scope of this project will include various closures at and along 12th Avenue NE. Completion of the project is expected in November 2023. See below updates and advisories on this project, posted as they become available.

 

UPDATE, POSTED 10/25/23: Closure of Newbury Drive at 12th Avenue NE will occur on Monday, 10/30/2023, following the reopening of Central Parkway and weather permitting.  The closure of Newbury Drive is needed to complete the permanent road repair that is required by the contractor following the completion of the pipe installation and testing of the whole project. Traffic access to 12th Avenue NE will need to be from Central Parkway or from Rock Creek Road via Bruckner Drive.  The closure is anticipated to be for 2 weeks. This closure will be in addition to sections of the easternmost Northbound lane of 12th Avenue NE that may be closed between High Meadows and Rock Creek Road. 

 

UPDATE, POSTED 9/29/23: Closure of Central Parkway at 12th Avenue NE will occur on Monday, 10/2/2023.  The closure of Central Parkway is needed to complete the permanent road repair that is required by the contractor following the completion of the pipe installation and testing of the whole project. Traffic access to 12th Avenue NE will need to be from Newbury Drive or from Rock Creek Road via Bruckner Drive.  The closure is anticipated to be for 2 weeks. This closure will be in addition to sections of the easternmost Northbound lane of 12th Avenue NE that may be closed between High Meadows and Rock Creek Road.

 

UPDATE, POSTED 8/5/23: Closure of Central Parkway at 12th Avenue NE will occur on Monday, 8/7/2023, in the afternoon after temporary paving is completed for Newbury drive.  The closure of Central Parkway is needed to improve driving conditions for traffic accessing 12th Avenue NE from the neighborhood and for the upcoming pipe installation under the roadway. Traffic access to 12th Avenue NE will need to be from Newbury Drive or from Rock Creek Road via Bruckner Drive.  The closure is anticipated to be for 1 week and will be in effect until the contractor has completed work past this location and further north to not impede visibility for traffic. The closure of Central Parkway is in conjunction with the closure of the easternmost Northbound lane of 12th Avenue NE further north from the current closure at High Meadows. 

 

UPDATE, POSTED 7/31/23: The Department of Utilities reports that closure of Newbury Drive at 12th Avenue NE has occurred to improve driving conditions for traffic accessing 12th Avenue NE from the neighborhood. Traffic access to 12th Avenue NE will need to be from Central Parkway or from Rock Creek Road via Bruckner Drive.  The closure is anticipated to be for 2 weeks and will be in effect until the contractor has completed work past this location and further north to not impede visibility for traffic. The closure of Newbury Drive is in conjunction with the closure of the easternmost Northbound lane of 12th Avenue NE further north from the current closure at High Meadows. 

 

INFORMATION POSTED 7/18/23: In order to safely construction the Lift Station D Phase 2 Force Main Replacement project, a contractor of the City of Norman will extend the closure of the easternmost northbound lane of 12th Avenue NE further north from the current closure at High Meadows. This closure will begin this week and is anticipated to take approximately 2 – 3 months. With this closure, northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane further north from the existing closure but access to existing streets and driveways will be not be impacted except when construction occurs at that specific street or driveway. The extent of the closure will continue to extend further north (ultimately to Rock Creek Road) as construction continues. Temporary closures may be required but will be coordinated with the property owners in advance. Drivers are advised to travel with caution in the area and adhere to all signage placed.
