Norman Police Arrest One in connection to Burglary

The Norman Police Department (NPD) arrested 27-year-old Elishua Benjamin (DOB: 8/8/1995) in connection to a residential burglary in the area of 48th Avenue NW and Las Colinas Lane on June 21.

At approximately 9:58 a.m. Wednesday, NPD received a report of a burglary in progress at a residence in the 4400 block of Las Colinas Lane. The resident was alerted that four individuals forced entry into the home via its video surveillance system.

Once on scene, officers located one of the suspects, later identified as Benjamin, running from the residence with a firearm taken from inside the home. Benjamin was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. He was booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center on complaints of Burglary – Second Degree, Carrying or Possessing a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Carrying or Possessing a Firearm after Previous Felony Conviction, Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Obstructing an Officer. 

Police believe that there were three additional suspects who were also possibly armed involved in the incident. Officers actively searched the residence and surrounding area for approximately three hours Wednesday, but were unable to locate any of the other suspects. Based on the initial investigation, police believe this to be an isolated incident. 

All outstanding suspects were wearing dark clothing and masks at the time of the incident. Anyone with information regarding their identity or whereabouts is asked to call NPD at 405-321-1600 or Norman Crime Stoppers at 405-366-STOP (7867).

This incident remains under investigation by the NPD Criminal Investigations Division.
