Norman launches Area and Infrastructure Master Plan process, AIM Norman

Norman residents will soon have the opportunity to voice their vision for the city’s future through a long-range planning initiative that began this week: AIM (Area & Infrastructure Master Plan) Norman.

Discussion regarding the creation of documents to guide cooperative strategies that will responsibly advance the Norman community began this summer, and two steering committee meetings have been coordinated. The Master Plan will shape the course of the community over the next two decades, crafted with the insight and engagement of residents, partner agencies, elected officials and City staff.

“Norman is a diverse and creative community,” said City Manager Darrel Pyle. “We encourage all residents to take part in this planning process and are looking forward to creating convenient opportunities to make that possible. As Norman continues to evolve, our goal is to create a blueprint for the future that represents and resonates with the entire community.”

AIM Norman will look at several distinct elements of city infrastructure, services and growth including:

  • Comprehensive Land Use Plan
  • Housing Market Analysis & Affordability Strategy
  • Comprehensive Transportation Plan Update
  • Stormwater Master Plan Update
  • Water Master Plan Update
  • Wastewater Master Plan
  • Parks Master Plan

A preliminary schedule of listening sessions, pop-up events and neighborhood workshops is available at aimnorman.com. Community surveys are also underway.

“AIM Norman is purposefully structured to rely heavily on input from the people who live, work and study in Norman,” said Mayor Larry Heikkila. “Our residents will guide the strategies that responsibly and sustainably advance our community. Participation is the key to success with this initiative and we are excited for the launch of this collaborative effort.”

The plan will be completed over 16-20 months and is guided by RDG Planning & Design, Inc. and Garver, in close partnership with City staff.
