POSTED 7/29/25: Norman City Council approved a purchase with the State of Oklahoma for the Griffin Park Soccer Complex at the Regular City Council meeting of 7/22/25. The complex is located in the area north of E. Robinson and west of 12th Avenue NE and has been leased through the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services since 1983.
The complex has been purchased at $3,306,811. It is funded largely by Griffin Park allocations (lease agreement payments that had been in place with the State) as part of the voter-approved Norman Forward initiative of 2015, in addition to cost-savings from certain capital project delays and completions as outlined in the 7/22/25 meeting presentation by staff. Discussions with the State to purchase the property, which the City of Norman has heavily invested in through major park upgrades and maintenance operations, have been ongoing since 2015. After detailed discussion, the Norman Forward Sales Tax Citizen Financial Oversight Board reached consensus – which was communicated to the Norman City Council on 7/22/25 – of support for the purchase.
