Norman Police Arrest One in connection to Shots Fired Overnight

The Norman Police Department responded to reports of multiple gunshots in the area of Gray Street and Porter Avenue at approximately 7:48 p.m. Monday (February 1). During a check of the area, officers observed a male standing in front of a business in the 200 block of N. Porter Avenue openly carrying an AK-47 rifle.

Due to multiple reports of gunshots and bystanders in the area, officers immediately ordered the male to put the firearm down. Despite continued commands from the officers, the male refused as he continued to exhibit behavior consistent with being intoxicated. Two officers disarmed the male without further incident. Numerous spent shell casings were located on the ground consistent with the multiple reports of shots fired in the area. No one was injured as a result of the incident. 

The male subject, later identified as 42-year-old Lucus Waite (DOB: 11-07-1978), was arrested and booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center on complaints of carrying firearms while under the influence and obstruction.

The incident remain under investigation by the NPD Criminal Investigations Division.
