Norman celebrates Small Business Saturday on November 30, 2024

On November 26, Norman Mayor Larry Heikkila issued a proclamation at City Hall to raise awareness for Small Business Saturday, an annual celebration highlighting the impact of small businesses in boosting the local economy.

Community members are invited to shop small and shop local on November 30 and throughout the holiday season. Now a national holiday, Small Business Saturday is dedicated to celebrating small businesses by helping to drive more customers through the doors of retail stores, restaurants, fitness studios, salons – and everything in between. The City of Norman has promoted Small Business Saturday in partnership with the Norman Chamber of Commerce and VisitNorman since 2015. In 2023, the reported projected spending in the U.S. from those who shopped at small businesses on Small Business Saturday was around $17 billion.

“Thank you for this opportunity to celebrate the small, but mighty businesses that make our city one of a kind. Small Business Saturday is all about honoring the dreamers, doers, and dedicated locals who pour their passion into their work,” said Ashley Jackson, co-owner of Apple Tree Chocolate. “These businesses are where our community comes together, whether it’s over coffee, clothes, or maybe even dessert. Our shop is more than a business, it’s a place where memories are made and celebrations are shared. This resolution reminds us that every time we shop small we’re building a stronger community. Each local purchase supports families, sparks growth, and strengths the heart of our city.”
