Information: Ward 3 Vacancy Filling, City of Norman

UPDATE, 10/24/25: In a 3-2 vote at a Ward 3 Selection Committee Meeting of 10/20/25, candidate Robert Bruce was selected to move forward to be considered by the City Council to fill the Ward 3 City Council vacancy. This item will appear on the 10/28/25 Norman City Council Meeting agenda.

 

UPDATE, 10/8/25: A Selection Committee was approved by Norman City Council and will hold its first meeting on 10/9/25.

UPDATE, 10/6/25: Items to move forward in filling the Ward 3 vacancy will be considered during the City Council Special Meeting of 10/7/25:

  • Consideration of the acceptance of the resignation of Bree Montoya and officially declare the Ward 3 Council Seat vacant
  • Consideration of the mayor's appointments for the Ward 3 Selection Committee

Additional public meetings of the Selection Committee will be scheduled following votes of the 10/7/25 Special Meeting. Relevant updates will be made available for the public at this webpage. An interim Ward 3 representative is expected to be appointed by December 2025.

 

POSTED 9/24/25: Following announcements of the 9/23/25 Norman City Council meeting, the Ward 3 City Council seat is now vacant and will be filled in accordance with Resolution 2122-139.

Applications for both the Ward 3 Candidate Selection Committee and the Ward 3 Council Candidates are available online or in-person at the Office of the City Clerk, 201 W. Gray.

All applications will close at 5 p.m. on October 2, 2025.

Those wishing to serve on the Selection Committee should reside in Ward 3. Those wishing to be considered to fill the Ward 3 seat should reside in Ward 3 and must be registered to vote in that ward for at least six months. A recommendation by the Selection Committee will be made to Norman City Council for ultimate approval of the person being considered to fill the Ward 3 vacancy. All Selection Committee meetings will be open to the public and relevant updates will be made available to the public at Normanok.gov. The interim Ward 3 representative will serve until a representative is elected by Ward 3 residents to fill the remainder of the term in February 2026.
