The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has notified the City of Norman that federal funding has been awarded for the repair of two local bridges.
"Through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Bridge Formula Program was established to provide each state with federal funds to assist in improving bridge conditions as part of the transportation infrastructure," an ODOT representative shared. "This funding is available for improving not only highway bridges, but also city and county owned structures."
In an effort to reduce the number of structurally deficient bridges in our state, ODOT has allocated some of these funds to address as many structurally deficient bridges as funding will permit. As part of this program, the following bridge(s) in Norman have been selected for scour repair and will go to bid in September: Bridge Number 14930 and Bridge Number 19418.
These repairs are 100 percent federally funded and do not require a match from the municipality and all work will be done within Right of Way.
- Bridge Number 14930 is the bridge structure on Willow Grove Drive off 48th Avenue SW south of Main Street. The this bridge location has been removed from the City Bridge Inventory because it is on a private road. The work is repairing and adding rip rap to protect the bridge. This will save maintenance costs for the residents in that neighborhood.
- Bridge Number 19418 is on Indian Hills Road west of 12th Avenue NE at the Belmar Golf Club. This bridge is jointly maintained by the City of Moore and the City of Norman as Indian Hills Road is the City limits. The work on this bridge includes debris removal, fill in scoured areas and placing rip rap in the stream to protect the bridge. This structure is not included in the 2023 Bridge by Bridge Bond Program or the Capital Bridge Program.
The repairs on these structures will aid in providing protection for these bridges and reduce erosion of the streams. The City of Norman looks forward to collaborating with ODOT as needed on any bridge improvements.
