First Responders to participate in emergency training exercises in Norman

Exercise dates: December 7, 2021 & December 9, 2021

Area first responders and the Oklahoma National Guard’s 63rd Civil Support Team will be in Norman next week to conduct a series of hazmat and law enforcement training exercises. Exercises will take place in two phases: At Griffin Memorial Hospital, 900 E. Main Street, on 12/7/21; and at Lloyd Noble Center (on the OU campus), 2900 S. Jenkins Avenue, on 12/9/21.

Parts of the event will include emergency vehicles using lights and sirens, and first responders may be seen wearing hazmat suits. Members of the public should not enter areas marked “Exercise in Progress” or “TRAINING” to ensure their personal safety and prevent training interruptions.

The training event is designed to help refine partnerships between local, state, and federal agencies when responding to incidents involving hazardous materials. The exercise is not COVID-19 related and has been scheduled since last year.

David Grizzle, City of Norman Emergency Manager, may be contacted at david.grizzle@normanok.gov with questions regarding the exercise off-campus. Questions regarding the exercise on-campus may be directed to Justin Daniels of OU Department of Campus Safety at jdaniels@ou.edu.
