POSTED 11:15 AM 5/2/25: Significant rainfall has caused flooding and damages in Norman in recent weeks. City officials have provided an update, as of 11:15 AM 5/2/25, for the community regarding the need for extended closures in certain areas of the community, which are outlined below.

Robinson Street between 48th avenue NW and 60th avenue NW

High water has caused significant erosion and failure of a culvert bank on Robinson Street. City workers are installing hard closure measures to ensure motorists cannot bypass traffic control. A mile section of roadway will be closed until repairs can be completed. There is no estimated time of repair completion, as the repair work is impacted by several factors:

    • High water still impacting ability to see full extent of damage
    • How quickly materials can be ordered/received for repair
    • Upcoming weather forecast that still maintains wet patterns that could limit production

Rock Creek Road between 48th Avenue NW and 60th Avenue NW

Water is still cresting above roadway at this time with evidence of pavement failure. There is limited visibility to determine extent of damage. Standard traffic control devices will remain in place with daily monitoring until City staff can determine the extent of damage.

48th Avenue NE between Rock Creek Road and Tecumseh Road

Void under pavement has developed due to high water volume. The roadway is closed with standard traffic control devices. There is damage to several traffic control devices from what appears to be motorist(s) driving through the closure. Closure signage will be refreshed and equipment is being mobilized to begin pavement repair as soon as 5/5/25, weather and circumstance pending.

Post Oak Road west of BNSF railroad

Heavy rains caused erosion around existing drainage culvert causing pavement failure. City staff is working to order materials and begin repairs. Traffic control devices are in place to maintain resident access.

All motorists are reminded to never drive around barricades placed on city roads. As additional updates are made available concerning this situation, they will be shared with the public at Normanok.gov.
