AIM Norman moving toward completion

Draft presentations for Norman's Area & Infrastructure Master Plan are ongoing

As part of the City of Norman's ongoing Area and Infrastructure Master Plan (AIM Norman), citizen-led subcommittees have recently presented draft plans to city leaders.

After months of study and public input, the subcommittees for Parks, Recreation and Culture as well as Water and Wastewater, presented draft plans at January city council study sessions.

The Parks, Recreation and Culture subcommittee submitted seven recommendations for consideration, including specific updates and improvements to Norman’s parks system, protection of natural resources and elevating the community’s arts and cultural organizations.

The Water and Wastewater subcommittee’s work revolved around bolstering water supply resources, delivering safe drinking water, wastewater collection and reclamation. The plan reviews the many challenges facing the city’s water and wastewater needs and offers a variety of options to address those challenges.

“Norman is ever evolving,” said Inger Giuffrida, co-chair of the AIM Norman Steering Committee. “Planning for projected growth, while also protecting resources like Lake Thunderbird and the Garber-Wellington aquifer, along with recreational offerings, and green and wild space, is important to our community.”

Draft plans from the remaining subcommittees will be presented at future city council study sessions. Once all of the individual plans are completed, an overall master plan will be presented to city leaders for approval.

“These draft plan presentations are an important piece of the AIM Norman process,” said Shavonne Evans, co-chair of the AIM Norman Steering Committee. “Resident input has played a key role in shaping these plans, and we look forward to presenting a completed master plan to the community this spring.”

AIM Norman will help shape the course of the community over the next two decades through the insights and engagement of Norman community members. AIM Norman represents a crucial roadmap that will provide essential guidance to city leaders, decision makers, and Norman’s residents as the community plans for the future.
