After Storm Information, July 2026

UPDATE 7/16/2026: The City of Norman continues to make steady progress in removing debris following the severe storm on July 4, 2026.

City crews are actively working in Wards 2, 3, 4 and 8, where some of the highest concentrations of storm debris were reported. As of July 14, approximately 7,000 cubic yards of vegetative debris have been collected and removed.

Residents are reminded that cooperation with debris removal guidelines will help crews work as efficiently as possible throughout the cleanup process.

The City also reminds residents living on private roads that requests for storm debris removal will only be accepted through Monday, July 20. Property owners or homeowners' associations requesting service on private roads must fill out the waiver before the deadline. Access the waiver at https://www.normanok.gov/right-entry-agreement.

General Information

The City of Norman remains in emergency response. All available City crews are assessing, clearing or repairing damage across the city. A disaster emergency has been declared in Cleveland County by Governor Kevin Stitt by Executive Order 2026-23. A City of Norman Emergency Proclamation has also been signed by Mayor Stephen Tyler Holman.

Residents should be aware of the following:

  • PRIVATE DAMAGE/DEBRIS CLEARING: A citywide debris clearing effort will occur in residential areas July 9-August 6. Debris (vegetative debris or construction & demolition debris accepted) must be placed in the public street right-of-way in order to be collected. Although the City cannot assist with cutting, clearing or other tasks on private property, residents opting to hire private contractors for such work are welcome to direct those contractors to place debris at the curb in accordance with the pickup plan guidelines.     • Crews will be thorough, but it is recommended that your debris be set out as soon as possible per the below: 
      • WARDS 2, 3, 4, 8: Expected to be collected July 9 - July 23 
      • WARDS 1, 5, 6, 7: Expected to be collected July 23 - August 6
    • Regular, weekly yard waste pickup will continue during this time and is separate from the specialized debris clearing plan linked above. Information on yard waste pickup can be found here. Debris 4 feet or less in length and 2 inches or less in diameter can be set out for regular yard waste collection.
  • PUBLIC DAMAGE/DEBRIS CLEARING: Storm damage is spread throughout town with the most damage incurred on the west side of Norman. City crews are actively clearing public rights-of-way, prioritizing major roads and considering emergency access to locations. Several departments are working together to clear public areas but cleanup efforts may take substantial time. City crews cannot assist with debris clearing on private property. Obstructions to public rights-of-way can be reported to the City of Norman Action Center during traditional business hours. Please do not report the same location multiple times, this could slow the organization, planning and execution process.
    • The State of Oklahoma encourages all property owners to report storm damage at damage.ok.gov. 
  • TRAFFIC SIGNALS/ROADWAY STATUS: Roadways that were closed due to storm-related issues have all been reopened as of the evening of 7/8/26. All traffic signals were reported operational as of 7 AM 7/7/26, but there may be intermittent outages or alternate traffic control methods utilized at certain intersections as staff carries out additional minor repairs/adjustments. Continue to proceed with caution as timing or cycling issues could still be experienced. 

  • TRANSFER AND COMPOST STATIONS: Until further notice, only residential units visiting the Transfer Station and Compost Facility in Norman will be accepted for drop-offs. With full staff and equipment running, the stations are overwhelmed by incoming loads. Contractors will need to haul to other locations, such as:

    • Republic Landfill at I-240 and Bryant in OKC
    • Brooksville Road Environmental Services in Tecumseh

    Residents utilizing either the Compost Facility or Transfer Station should bring their utility bill or a form of ID with a Norman address. The Compost Facility will take vegetation that is no longer than 8 feet and no more than 12 inches in diameter.

  • LOST OR FOUND PETS: Storms can leave animals displaced. Learn more about getting them home safely through Norman Animal Welfare.
  • REGULAR TRASH/RECYCLING COLLECTION: Drivers will strive to keep regular sanitation routes on schedule the week of July 6 but may be limited in areas in which there are road closures or repairs occurring. Those in impacted areas should try to place carts away and in front of debris. Sanitation teams will be flexible to help accommodate customers during recovery. Call 405-329-1023 with questions.

  • GENERAL DISASTER RELIEF: Teams from the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief organization (a ministry agency separate and apart from the City of Norman) have also shared with the Norman Fire Department that they are taking work requests for those in need of chainsaw services to help clean properties.     SNAP recipients in Cleveland County who lost food due to the power outages may be eligible for replacement SNAP benefits, per information released by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management. Interested parties should contact Oklahoma Human Services for more information.

    Individuals or families in need of immediate assistance following natural disasters, to include mental health resources, can contact the Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS. Mental health resources are also available by dialing 988, Oklahoma's Crisis Line; Central Oklahoma Community Mental Health Center; Third Space Therapy; Thunderbird Clubhouse; Oklahoma Medical Reserve Team.
