This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. One to two years of experience is necessary to gain the knowledge of the machinery, equipment, repairs, and procedures of the department. Proficient in all areas of medium/heavy truck and equipment repair. Available for on-call rotation approximately three times annually.
License and Certifications: Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record. Ability to obtain 5 ASE Certifications in related field within one (1) year of employment. Must obtain an Oklahoma Commercial Driver’s License, Class B within one (1) year of employment. CDL training is paid for and a truck to test with is provided. Must obtain an Oklahoma Department of Labor, Alternative Fuels Equipment Technician License within one (1) year of employment or as classes become available (paid training). Ability to obtain Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning (MVAC) Certification under section 609 of the Clean Air Act within one (1) year of employment. Training and materials provided by City for all licenses and certifications required.
Knowledge: Operating principles and theories of diesel, gasoline, compressed natural gas, and battery-powered engines. Independently diagnosing and repairing all types of vehicles. Hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems. Safety practices related to the repair of equipment.
Skills: Reading and interpreting schematics, diagrams, flow charts, and instructions outlined in equipment repair manuals. Diagnosing equipment malfunctions and rebuilding parts. Operating various hand and power tools and work aids. Navigating multiple diagnostic scan tools and vehicle software.
Essential Functions: Diagnose equipment malfunctions. Repair and replace parts on various medium/heavy trucks and equipment to ensure the safe, continued operation of City equipment. Diagnose and repair hydraulic and complex electrical systems. Repair or replace brake systems. Operate wrecker to tow disabled vehicles. Perform duties related to the maintenance of City vehicles and equipment. Perform related work as assigned.
Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy (25-50 lb.) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently. Ability to lift heavy (50-75 lb.) materials, supplies, and equipment occasionally. Work requires continued walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
Working Conditions: Frequent exposure of up to 80% of work time to dirt, dust, extremes of temperature, and noxious fumes and odors.
Additional Information: All tools/toolboxes provided. The selected applicant must pass a background investigation, physical examination, and drug screen.
