Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer some related college courses. One to two years of experience working in a professional case management capacity. VI-SPDAT trained. Experience working with homeless population is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications: Access to HMIS for entering data.
Knowledge: Oral and written communication ability equivalent to that normally acquired through a high school education is required. Basic knowledge of service provision to homeless community.
Skills: Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with Continuum of Care staff outside partners in a courteous and friendly manner. Using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines. Providing varied, responsible, and confidential case management assistance. Ability to work closely with a multidisciplinary team and assist on duty security guard when necessary. Current Federal, State and local laws, regulatory codes, ordinances, procedures relevant to homeless assistance programs, such as those designed to improve/provide housing, education, employment, or socio-economic status.
Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for assisting the Homeless Program Coordinator with all activities pertaining to the City of Norman’s designation as the Collaborative Applicant for the Norman/Cleveland County Continuum of Care, including the coordination of efforts by member agencies/service providers assisting with the operation of the emergency winter shelter. Follows the procedures intake and obtaining documentation of shelter guests, as well as entering all guest information into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). Interfaces with the public and Continuum of Care partners to assist with providing and verifying information, inputting data into the HMIS database, and providing case management services to shelter guests. Develops, gathers and processes information from a broad range of questionnaires and interviews. The Case Manager will provide support and guidance primarily as guests are welcomed into the shelter. Performs other related work as required.
Working Conditions: Works primarily in a shelter environment.
Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance. Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant interruptions associated with answering phones or completing the intake process with shelter guests. Moderate mobility; field duties may be performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting.
