POSTED 4/4/24: At the direction of Norman City Council, City of Norman staff have engaged with a survey contractor to gauge interest and potential public investment support regarding a new National Weather Museum & Science Center. This idea was spurred by recent studies conducted through community partners at the Norman Economic Development Coalition and VisitNorman, in consultation with current National Weather Museum & Science Center leadership. The overall project would entail construction of a new National Weather Museum & Science Center with start-up costs potentially funded through a new property tax, which would require voter approval. The project would be led by Museum leadership and ultimately run/managed by Museum leadership. At this time, the overall project is estimated to cost approximately $115 million and may be located in the University North Park District.

Survey results are expected to be presented in a City of Norman public meeting in May 2024. The community will be kept apprised of movement on this project via updates at Normanok.gov.
