Sanitation Recycling Guidelines for Curbside Service
Plastics marked #3 through #7 are not accepted. These are items as yogurt containers, cottage cheese containers, margarine tubs, prescription drug containers, and other hard plastics.
Accepted recyclables, such as plastics marked #1 and #2, should be placed loose in your polycart. If you like to carry them out in a bag, please use a paper bag and place in cart. Paper bags are recyclable and don't interfere with the machinery that separates the recycle stream.
Do not use plastic bags to carry out recyclables. These are not allowed in the recycle stream since they get caught in the machinery at the separator facility. If you have plastic bags, they can be taken to Walmart, Lowes, Sam's Club or Target for proper recycling.

We CAN accept:
- Aluminum Trays - Empty Aluminum Cans
- Paper: Newspapers, Office Paper, Magazines, Advertising Inserts, Junk Mail and Books (paper pieces should be physically larger than a credit card)
- Plastics #1 and #2: Clean Milk Jugs, Beverage Containers, Detergent Jugs, Shampoo and Conditioner Bottles (Stamped #1 or #2 on the bottom.)
- Steel and Tin: Clean Food Cans and Lids (empty cans only)
- Paperboard: Cereal boxes, Kleenex boxes (no wax coated paperboard)
- Cardboard and Paper Bags (Flatten cardboard and cut into pieces)
- Soiled pizza boxes that are clear from any food items
We CANNOT accept:
- Garbage, Food Residue, Chemicals, Aluminum Foil
- Cast Aluminum, Aerosol Cans or Paint Cans
- Glass of any kind (Glass can be dropped off, however, at any Norman Recycling Center)/Mirrors
- Paper: Tissue, Disposable Diapers or Rags, Wrapping Paper
- Plastics #3-7: Juice, yogurt, dairy, margarine tubs, prescription vials, garden pots or flats, plastic trays, cups and plates. Toxic Containers (such as motor oil), Plastic stretch wrap, Hangers
- Plastic Bags (shopping bags, garbage bags around recycling content, plastic bags around shredded paper, etc.)
- Other: Styrofoam, Packing Peanuts or Tissue
NOTE: A "Styro-Station" where foam can be dropped off for safe recycling is located at:
University Lutheran Church & Student Center, 914 Elm. The Styro-Station is easily accessed off the church parking lot located on College, behind the church. Hours of operation are weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A drop-off box is placed outside the door if the office is closed. Items to recycle include foodservice containers and packaging foam, but no packaging peanuts. All foam must be washed off and VERY CLEAN to densify into solid plastic logs. All items brought to recycle must be grease-free, food and drink-free, and have tape and paper labels removed.
