We understand that sometimes life circumstances change, and you may find yourself in a situation where you need to rehome your pet. At Norman Animal Welfare, we are here to support you during this difficult time. Our goal is to ensure that every pet receives the care and attention they deserve, even if they need to transition to a new home.
In order to be eligible to surrender a pet, you must be a Norman resident and be able to provide proof of residency upon surrender.
How the pet surrender process works at Norman Animal Welfare:
- Complete a Surrender Form. This form helps us gather essential information about your pet, including their medical history, behavior and any special needs. The more details you provide, the easier it will be for us to find your pet a new home.
- After you complete the Surrender Form, your pet will automatically be added to our list of animals waiting to be surrendered to our shelter. You may be contacted by a member of the Norman Animal Welfare team to schedule a health assessment and behavior evaluation as well as a spay/neuter surgery if necessary.
Due to the high demand for our services, we maintain a waiting list for surrendered animals. Once the paperwork is complete, pets will be added to the surrender list at Norman Animal Welfare. As a municipal shelter, we encounter unique challenges. Our primary responsibility is to maintain space for incoming strays, which means we must carefully manage our available capacity. Sometimes, it takes a little longer for surrendered pets to be brought into the shelter due to this space constraint. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this process.
