Education Program
The City of Norman experiences periodic problems with pesticides entering the sewer system that cannot be adequately treated at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Diazinon in particular has been identified as causing toxicity in the effluent of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. As a result the EPA requires that we use public education as a way to reduce the amount entering the system. Listed below are various educational materials available to assist citizens in understanding the different ways their actions can impact the quality of our water and how they can help protect our water. If you would like a copy of any of this material you may either come by the Industrial Pretreatment office of the Wastewater Treatment Division at 3500 S. Jenkins or call 292-9731 and request that we mail it to you. Please remember that pesticides are poisons and when used improperly they can be dangerous to both you and your environment. Always read and follow the directions provided with these products. NEVER pour pesticides down ANY
drain. Material available by visiting our office, through the mail or you can click on the titles underlined and in blue.
