Norman opened its first recycling center April 6, 1995. Within four months, the citizens of Norman had recycled more than 520 tons of trash at three drop-off stations.

Norman's recycling program shows others that we live in a model community, preserving valuable resources for a quality environment today and for future generations.

The City of Norman hopes to reduce our solid waste by 25 percent or more. By following these basic principles, we can alleviate the pressure on our landfills:

What Can Be Recycled?

  • Aluminum Steel and tin cans 
  • Corrugated cardboard 
  • Glass - clear, brown, yellow, and green 
  • Newspaper 
  • Plastic - #1 and #2 (Milk jugs, soda bottles, etc.)

What Can Not Be Recycled?

  • Styrofoam, foil, pie plates, leftover food 
  • Chipboard (cereal boxes) 
  • Mixed glass colors 
  • Pyrex, window or plate glass 
  • Strings, rope, other bindings 
  • Plastics that held oil, antifreeze, paint thinner or pesticides

24 Hours a day, 7 Days a week
Closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day

  Make Your Own Compost: Request a detailed flier from the Norman Public Library or contact the OSU Extension Center at 321-4774.
