Denese Miles

Greenbelts and greenways make me a better person. I can think of nothing that I can buy that would bring me as much joy as what Mother Nature offers me free. The random bloom of wildflowers, graceful arching of old trees, or surprise at discovering a new hatching of baby turtles gives me pause for what is really important.

The greenbelts may also be the only chance for wildlife survival as precious habitat dwindles. I would hate for zoos to become the only option for future generations to view native wildlife; certainly not as rewarding as happening upon these creatures in their own environment. Greenbelts provide valuable release areas for wildlife that have been rehabilitated after an injury or misplaced by development. Greenbelts may be the only chance for some species to survive. If you just get out and look, you would be amazed at what is out there!
