Garage Sales
Garage sales are popular events in Norman.
A garage sale enables you to rid yourself of old items around the house and
make a handsome profit at the same time. Garage sales can be fun and profitable,
but the City of Norman asks that for the benefit of your neighbors and the
community, you follow a few simple guidelines:
- You may not conduct or permit a garage sale, patio sale, porch sale or yard
sale or other similar sale upon the grounds of or within any dwelling or
premises located in zoning districts A-1, A-2, RE, R-1, R-2, R-3, RM-4 or RM-6
without having previously obtained a permit from the City of Norman.
- The permit required for the garage or similar sale will cost $10 and will:
- Include the location of such sale, the name of the person holding the sale,
the dates of the sale and a signed statement by the applicant that the goods to
be sold have not been purchased for resale;
- Be valid for no more than three consecutive days;
- Not be issued more than twice to the same applicant during a calendar year;
- Not be issued for the same location more than twice during a calendar year.
- The provisions of this article don't apply to or affect:
- Persons acting pursuant to an order or process of a court of competent
jurisdiction;
- Persons acting in accordance with their powers and duties as public
officials;
- Persons duly licensed as auctioneers selling at auctions.
Garage Sale Signs Sales may be advertised by the use of one
temporary sign placed in the front of the sale location.
