Light up your holiday season with free, family-friendly events

Thanksgiving has passed and Black Friday is done; now it’s time for Christmas and good holiday fun. But before you settle for a long winter nap, put these free, family-friendly events from Norman Parks and Rec under your cap.

  • Winterfest @Legacy Park, Friday, Dec. 14 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
1898 Legacy Park Drive at University North Park
Activities include a free photo booth with Santa, gift wrapping contest with prizes, arts and crafts with the Pioneer Library as well as holiday musical performances. Performers include Sooner Theater, Terra Verde Discovery School, Norman Dazzlers Dance Team, the Jefferson Elementary Choir, and the Cleveland Elementary Choir.
Pre-registration for the gift wrapping contest is required, call 292-7275.
  • Santa’s Calling, Dec. 11 and 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Santa will take a couple of hours out of his busy schedule to call children about the presents they hope to receive and can mention personal details such as the name of their pet, and keeping their rooms clean so they won’t find themselves on the naughty list. The program is designed for children in pre-kindergarten through second grade and is made possible by the Cleveland County Court House and NP&R. Calls will be made between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
