Norman officials are approaching both railroad grade separations (Robinson and Lindsey) as projects that will be funded using 80-20 federal grants. Norman's Lobbyist has been asked to work on obtaining the grants in federal legislation through the Federal Railroad Administration. The City Council approved the City's 20% share of the design cost at their meeting of October 14, 2003. The remaining City cost for these projects is proposed to come from a Bond Election. Council has talked about holding the bond election in the spring of 2004.

Possible Timeline:

Design of the grade separations will take approximately 12 months. Then Right of way acquisition and utility relocations with take another year. Construction will take 12 to 14 months. The design will have to be completed before we start acquisition of the right of way. The right of way will have to be in hand before the utility relocation can start. The utility relocation will have to be finished before the construction can start.
