Public Works

The Public Works Department is the agency in City government responsible for construction, maintenance and operation of the street and drainage networks. In addition the Public Works Department is responsible for procurement and maintenance of the City's fleet of vehicles and motorized equipment.

There are four divisions who are responsible for implementing various parts of the Public Works responsibility. The Engineering Division is responsible for Subdivision plan review and construction. They provide the engineering design for the street and drainage system. They review and approve the plans for the subdivision of new land in Norman.

The Traffic Division is responsible for operation of the City's street system. They perform their function by placing streetlights, signs, barricades and signals in locations dictated by traffic conditions. They also conduct traffic studies and operate the traffic signal system.

The Streets Division is responsible for the maintenance of the street and drainage systems throughout the City. They provide for street sweeping, pot hole patching, curb inlet cleaning, and other functions necessary to keep the streets and drainage channels operational.

The Fleet Maintenance Division is the organization responsible for acquisition, maintenance and disposal of motorized equipment and vehicles.
