Profile for Roger Gallagher
Councilmember Roger Gallagher a Vietnam Veteran, has been a resident of Norman since 1976 and has lived in Ward One the entire time. He moved here to work on an advanced degree at OU and to teach English. In 1980 he returned to flying and retired after 32 years as a commercial helicopter pilot. He began his official service as councilmember for Ward One in July, 2011.
Ward One includes the area east of 12th Avenue N.E. between Alameda Street and Lindsey Street extending to 48th Avenue S.E. and between 12th Avenue S.E. and 24th Avenue S.E. with the west boundary between Imhoff Road and State Highway Nine being Classen Boulevard.
Roger holds two Masters Degrees in English and School Administration from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and served as the university’s Ombudsman during his time there. Roger has attended Council meetings regularly for over three years and has followed the local issues.
Gallagher's principal concerns are a strong public safety philosophy, a cautious approach to the City’s financial condition and its ability to operate well into the black. He believes that the City cannot function properly without a wide array of concerned citizens volunteering, attending Council meetings and voicing their ideas.
Councilmember Gallagher serves on the Council Finance Committee and the Community Planning and Transportation Committee.
