Profile for Rachel Butler
Councilmember Butler has lived in east Norman for 20 years and has been a librarian at Oklahoma City Community College since 1989. Over many years she has served the Oklahoma Library Association in a variety of leadership roles, including chair of the annual conference two years ago and currently chairs an ad hoc committee to develop a library leadership institute for Oklahoma. She also has a masters degree in geography and a long time interest in planning issues.
Ward 5 covers mostly rural east Norman, from approximately 36th Avenue east to the far side of Lake Thunderbird.
Councilmember Butler wants to listen to the Ward 5 constituents and carry their issues forward. She will take a thoughtful approach to balancing growth and the environment and hopes to involve many people in the review process, in discussing what makes a great city, and what kind of future we want for Norman.
Councilmember Butler serves as Chair of the Planning and Community Development Committee and is a member of the Transportation Committee. She also serves as Council's representative to ACOG (Association of Central Oklahoma Governments).
