Lane Shift on West Main Street Bridge Over Brookhaven Creek Monday

On Friday, April 12, at 8:00 a.m. the east and west bound lanes will be shifted to the south half of West Main Street from east of West Main Street Bridge to just west of Willow Branch Road. This traffic shift is necessary to reconstruct the north-half of the West Main Street roadway. Weather permitting; West Main Street roadway construction will be completed on May 3, 2019.
Traffic devises will be installed to direct the traveling public.
Future changes to traffic configurations will be announced as they are scheduled. Questions about the project may be directed to Chris Serrano at 405-366-5265 or chris.serrano@normanok.gov
History of the Project
The Main Street Bridge Project was awarded on June 4, 2018 by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT). The successful bidder was Silver Star Construction of Moore, Oklahoma, with a low bid of $4,905,000.  The project includes replacing a structurally deficient bridge structure with a triple-cell reinforced concrete box along with eco-friendly channel improvements. Construction began on August 13, 2018 with an expected completion date in July 2019. On August 14, 2018 Main Street Bridge collapsed as a result of higher than usual volumes of water caused by the frequent rain events.
On August 28, 2012 the citizens of Norman approved a bond issue to finance the local share of eight projects. One of the projects is the Main Street Bridge over Brookhaven Creek. The proposed improvements include reconstructing Main Street Bridge with a triple cell reinforced concrete box, and structurally stabilizing the banks on both sides of Brookhaven Creek.
