Elmwood from Chautauqua to Franklin to close daily this week

Elmwood Drive from Chautauqua Avenue to Franklin Drive will close Tuesday at 7 a.m. for continued work to replace water lines. This block will be closed during the day while the water line work is underway in the area. The water line installation is expected to be complete by Friday.Homeowners will be allowed access to their homes at all times.

The suggested detour is east or west along Hardin Street. Warning and detour signs will be in place to assist motorists. The project is a continuation of the joint project between the University of Oklahoma and the City of Norman Utility Authority (NUA).

The NUA is installing a new 24-inch waterline to improve water distribution to the west side of Norman, as well as improve fire protection and increase the ability to provide peak day demand.  The university is replacing their 16-inch waterline that supplies water from North Base to the main campus. The two entities are working together to install the two pipes within the same ditch, providing savings to both. The overall project is approximately 90% complete and final completion is expected by September 30.
