Bob Thompson
Councilmember Thompson is a 24 year resident of
Norman and the owner of Midway Grocery and Deli. He began his official
service as councilmember for Ward One in July, 2005.
Ward One includes the area west of East 36th Avenue to 24th Avenue N.E.
between Robinson and Lindsey; 24th Avenue N.E. to 12th Avenue N.E.
between Alameda and State Highway Nine; with the west boundary between
Imhoff Road and State Highway Nine being Classen Boulevard
Improving life in all neighborhoods and insuring fair treatment for all
tops Thompson's list of priorities with a strong emphasis on
neighborhood associations and the formation of coalitions to strengthen
the citizens voice in local government. Thompson has always been active
in neighborhoods, and in Norman's Core Area where his business is
located. He uses his skill of one-on-one communication to further his
goal of being an independent voice for the citizens of Norman seeking
better access to their city government.
Thompson supports growth that maintains the quality of life no matter
how big Norman gets and the funding of the basic needs of Norman first,
such as fire protection, law enforcement, solutions to traffic
congestion, flooding, street repair, and enforcement of code compliance.
He believes in the citizens right to vote on utility rate increases.
Councilmember Thompson serves as Chair of the Council Oversight
Commission and is a member of the Finance Commission. He is a member of the
Downtowners Association.
Citizens with concerns are encouraged to contact Councilmember Thompson
either by e-mail or phone.
