Cindy S. Rosenthal
Mayor Cindy S. Rosenthal has been a resident of
Norman since 1985 and serves as Director of the Carl Albert
Congressional Research and Studies Center at the University of Oklahoma.
She is an Associate Professor of political science, public
administration, and women’s studies. She also directs N.E.W. (National
Education for Women’s) Leadership. Her professional background is as a
consultant on public management and a policy analyst with expertise in
economic development and intergovernmental relations. She holds a
bachelors degree in journalism from Northwestern University, a masters
in urban studies from Occidental college, and a Ph.D. in political
science from the University of Oklahoma.
She has served on the League of Women Voters Board; Norman Public
Schools Citizens Advisory Council; Norman Library Board; Firehouse Art
Center Board; Greenbelt Task Force; and Norman Future Committee. She and
her husband, Jim, are charter members of the Norman Area Land
Conservancy. She was named volunteer of the year by the Norman Arts and
Humanities Council in 1987.
She began her official service with the City of Norman as Councilmember
for Ward Four in July of 2004, representing the heart of Norman –
Downtown, Campus Corner, Norman Regional Hospital, and the historic
residential neighborhoods of our city. Mayor Rosenthal currently chairs
the Planning Committee for the Norman City Council and is on the board
of the Oklahoma Municipal League.
